🎮 You’ll train, bond, and race with girls who are reincarnations of famous real-life racehorses (yes, that’s canon). The races are flashy, the graphics surprisingly top-tier, and the entire vibe? Pure chaos, but make it wholesome idol-energy.

🦾 A 9-part anthology by animation legends, the film is almost entirely dialogue-free, relying on rich visuals and a powerful Joe Hisaishi soundtrack to explore the beauty and terror of robotic life. From heartwarming tales like Star Light Angel to dystopian warnings like Presence, it delivers everything from romance to ruin.

🎡 The opening? A literal carnival of destruction, trampling a village under the “wonders” of technology — and that irony only deepens with each story.

💬 Tony writes, “Even the most upbeat segments carry an underlying caution that’s so damned refreshing in 2025.” He draws eerie parallels between 1987’s fears of robotic doom and today’s AI dependence, posing an urgent question: are we creators, or just cogs?

🎨 Personal favorite? Cloud — an abstract, silent journey of a robot walking through time. No words, just awe.

🧠 Why Watch Robot Carnival in 2025?

A premonition of our tech-saturated present

Visually stunning — no dialogue needed

From the mind behind Akira’s iconic visuals

Retro but deeply relevant

For fans of Fantasia, Akira, and Daft Punk's Interstella 5555

🤖 Whether you see it as a celebration of imagination or a warning against losing ourselves to machines, Robot Carnival is one of anime’s most haunting time capsules.

Solo Leveling Staff Tease Season 3 After Anime of the Year Win: “We Must Go Beyond”

Solo Leveling Season 3 isn’t officially confirmed, but backstage staff hints reveal it’s already in the works. Get ready for a power leap in story, action, and animation 🔥 Solo Leveling Season 3 Teased Following Anime of the Year Win!

While Solo Leveling basks in the glory of its Anime of the Year win, the creators have quietly dropped major hints that Season 3 is already in motion — even if unofficially.

🎙️ Animation Producer Atsushi Kaneko said in a backstage interview that while he can’t confirm Season 3 publicly, its future depends on ongoing fan support, which all but confirms plans are in motion.

🎬 Action Director Yoshihiro Kanno revealed even more:

Starship Godzilla Brings ‘80s VHS Anime Vibes to IDW’s New Sci-Fi Kaiju Comic

IDW’s Starship Godzilla launches readers into a futuristic space adventure with Mechagodzilla and cosmic kaiju warfare - all styled like a lost ‘80s anime. 🚀👾 Starship Godzilla Is the ‘80s Anime-Style Space Epic You Didn’t Know You Needed!

Launching October 1, Starship Godzilla is IDW’s latest addition to its brand-new Kai-Sei era — an interconnected sci-fi kaiju comic universe set in the future.

🦖 But this one’s going galactic. The series is written by Chris Gooch (In Utero) and illustrated by Oliver Ono (Monster Island Summer Camp), whose art is said to feel like “a lost VHS of an '80s space anime.”

🔭 What’s it about?

A ragtag space crew flies across the galaxy inside a Mechagodzilla, tackling kaiju threats beyond Earth — from space pests blocking trade routes to monsters used in galactic wars. But a deeper cosmic conspiracy threatens to tear the crew apart.

Think Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla meets Cowboy Bebop, with high-stakes missions, bizarre planets, and massive space kaiju battles.

📘 IDW’s Kai-Sei Lineup Includes:

Godzilla (July 2025)

Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone (August 2025)

Starship Godzilla (October 2025)

Expect worldbuilding, retro flair, and absurdly cool sci-fi kaiju action.

🧠 Artist Ono says:

“I’m trying to make the worlds feel tangible and fantastical. Look for all the little background details!”

Solo Leveling’s Global Success Took Creators by Surprise, Says Producer

Solo Leveling’s global breakout shocked even the creators. Producer Atsushi Kaneko admits the anime's international popularity far exceeded its reception in Japan 🎙️ "It Was Very Unexpected" — Solo Leveling's Global Popularity Stunned the Production Team

Despite becoming Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Awards, Solo Leveling’s producer Atsushi Kaneko says even the creators were caught off guard by how massively it exploded outside Japan. On The Anime Effect Podcast, Kaneko admitted:

“The way the Solo Leveling anime was received in Japan was no different from any other anime… so when we learned how the series exceptionally blew up in popularity for our global Solo Leveling fans, honestly speaking, this difference in reaction was very unexpected.”

📊 While Solo Leveling smashed streaming records and became the most-watched anime on Crunchyroll by March 2025, it didn’t even break Blu-ray rankings in Japan, highlighting the surprising gap in domestic vs international reception.

6️⃣ Pokémon Yellow: A Full Anime Tribute

From Pikachu as a starter to Jessie and James, Yellow rewrote the game format to reflect Ash’s journey in the anime.

Shadow Monarch Jinwoo from Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive clad in dark armor, wielding dual swords in a cinematic battle stance

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive Review – Feels Like Jinwoo, But the Grind Quickly Kicks In

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive recreates Jinwoo's power fantasy with flashy combat and deep RPG elements, but repetitive gameplay and shallow design make the experience feel hollow after a few hours 🎮 Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive Feels Like Jinwoo… Until the Grind Takes Over

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive starts strong, throwing players into Jinwoo’s iconic Awakening with thrilling combat and slick animations. At first, it feels like you’re truly stepping into the Shadow Monarch’s shoes — but it doesn’t take long for the grind to rear its ugly head.

🕹️ The gameplay blends Dynasty Warriors-style combat with RPG systems pulled straight from the anime, like Shadow Army upgrades, Artifact crafting, and four playable classes: Assassin, Duelist, Elementalist, and Ruler. You can customize your loadout, trigger flashy ultimates, and even recruit familiar Hunters in battle.

⚔️ But beyond the flashy surface, critics argue the game lacks depth. Repetitive dungeon crawls, bland NPCs, lifeless environments, and questionable weapon choices (since when did Jinwoo use bows and guns?) make progression feel more like busywork.

💡 Many fans believe Overdrive is a revamped port of 2024’s Solo Leveling: Arise mobile gacha game — just stripped of monetization and repackaged for PC. Despite Netmarble’s insistence that it's a brand-new game, reused assets and UI suggest otherwise.

📉 Once the wow-factor wears off, the button-mashing becomes tedious, and even with complex skill trees and stat-boosting systems, Overdrive feels more grind than glory.

🎮 Verdict: If you’re a die-hard Solo Leveling fan, it’s a fun way to relive Jinwoo’s rise. But for others, it might feel like a shadow of what it could’ve been.

Despite its massive success and Anime of the Year win at Crunchyroll’s 2025 Awards, Solo Leveling is under fire for one glaring issue: Sung Jinwoo’s weak characterization.

📈 While the series boasts record-breaking episodes and some of the best animated action scenes in recent years, many fans and critics feel Solo Leveling lacks emotional weight. The issue? Jinwoo's evolution from weak hunter to Shadow Monarch feels rushed and emotionally hollow.

🧍‍♂️ He has minimal emotional bonds, barely interacts meaningfully with his family, and shows little introspection after gaining immense power. His relationships, like with Cha Hae-In or Yoo Jinho, feel underdeveloped or one-sided.

👀 Critics say Jinwoo’s battles, while flashy, lack stakes because viewers never truly know what’s at stake for him. Even powerful moments like his job-change quest don't fully explore the psychological transformation he undergoes.

🎭 Compared to emotionally rich characters in anime like Berserk, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, or Evangelion, Jinwoo remains a character of untapped potential.

💬 Do you agree with the criticism, or do you think Jinwoo is exactly the protagonist Solo Leveling needs?

Anime-style image of Rita Vrataski standing in a ruined desert landscape, red alien roots twisting behind her, clad in a mech suit, eyes locked forward in determination

June 19, 2025

All You Need Is Kill Anime Film Review: A Time Loop of Trauma, Combat & Redemption

All You Need Is Kill anime film reimagines the source material through Rita’s perspective. With unique visuals and emotional depth, it offers a bold retelling even if not all its risks pay off. 🌀 REVIEW: All You Need Is Kill (Anime Film)

Studio 4°C’s latest anime film puts a fresh, emotional spin on All You Need Is Kill, this time through the eyes of Rita Vrataski, not Keiji. Directed by Kenichiro Akimoto and written by Yuichiro Kido, it trades the blockbuster polish of Edge of Tomorrow for something darker, weirder—and far more introspective.

💥 A massive alien tree named Darol bursts into Earth’s reality. Rita, a quiet young tech, gets caught in a time loop after ingesting monster blood. From there, it’s a familiar but emotionally resonant loop of combat, death, and rebirth. But beneath the mechs and monsters is a story about isolation, grief, and transformation.

🎨 Visually, it’s striking—think oil-slick color palettes, scratchy cel-shaded linework, and Tekkonkinkreet-like surrealism. Editing plays with resets in stylish ways—watch as Rita's steps across timelines blend into a single, confident march forward.

🎮 The "video game" comparisons are spelled out too obviously (one character literally says it), and the ending stumbles, pulling agency away from Rita in favor of a clumsy twist involving Keiji. But the first two acts are gripping, especially in how they explore Rita’s trauma and growth.

🗣 Verdict: Visually bold and emotionally ambitious, All You Need Is Kill is a mixed but memorable adaptation. A flawed but compelling reset of a well-worn loop.

Studio Ghibli’s CG film Earwig and the Witch showing lifeless 3D visuals with Earwig, Bella Yaga, and Mandrake in a static background

June 18, 2025

Earwig and the Witch: Studio Ghibli’s Most Controversial Film Explained

Studio Ghibli's first 3D CG film Earwig and the Witch fell flat with fans due to lifeless visuals, weak characters, and a lackluster story. Here's what went wrong. 😬 Earwig & the Witch – Studio Ghibli’s most controversial film – proves you can judge a book by its cover.

🎬 As the studio’s first fully 3D CG anime, fans had high hopes… but it lacked the warmth and charm of classics like Spirited Away or Howl’s Moving Castle.

🧙‍♀️ Directed by Goro Miyazaki, the film struggled with:

Plastic-looking visuals 👎

Rigid character animation 🫥

Weak emotional depth 💔

Abrupt and unsatisfying ending 🚫

👧 Even Earwig herself – a clever, mischievous orphan – never undergoes meaningful growth.

💬 Critics felt it played more like a failed pilot than a proper Ghibli film. While innovation is crucial, Earwig shows how straying from storytelling roots can hurt even legendary studios.

📉 A rare misstep that reminds us why Ghibli's magic lies in hand-drawn beauty, heartfelt characters, and rich emotion.

Yu and Himari stand apart under twilight skies, surrounded by handmade jewelry pieces, silently facing the choice between love and dreams

June 17, 2025

Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? Ep 11 – Romance or Dreams

Episode 11 of Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? delivers unexpected emotional depth as Yu and Himari face a life-altering decision - pursue love or their shared creative dream 💔 Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? – Episode 11 Recap & Thoughts

Episode 11 flips expectations as Yu and Himari reach a painful crossroads between love and ambition. What started as a simple story about childhood friendship has taken on surprising emotional weight.

✨ Himari admits her love for Yu grew from his passion — but now, that very passion threatens their relationship. Yu realizes he’s no longer designing accessories for customers… he’s been doing it for her. But when love and dreams collide, can both survive?

🧭 The adults in their lives lay it out clearly: go all in on romance now and risk your dream, or master your craft and wait until the future feels real. No grand gestures, no dramatic confessions — just an honest moment where they both realize they like each other… but have to walk away.

💬 Even Yu’s sister and Rion add thoughtful (and hilarious) layers to the drama, with Rion casually offering to join them in a poly relationship for laughs.

👀 Next week might bring a time skip — will it lead to healing, growth, or heartbreak? Either way, this show just got a whole lot more serious

CoMixWave Producer Frustrated by Hollywood’s “Everything Must Be Anime” Trend

As anime expands globally, CoMixWave Films' Noritaka Kawaguchi criticizes Hollywood's overreliance on anime adaptations, citing fatigue from too many IPs like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. 🌀 “There are too many works to check out.”

That’s the honest take from CoMixWave Films founder Noritaka Kawaguchi, who recently aired his frustrations over Hollywood’s obsession with turning everything into anime.

📍 Speaking at Machi Asobi (via Anime Corner), Kawaguchi — known for producing Makoto Shinkai’s hits — called out the current trend of anime-fying major Western IPs like:

Star Wars: Visions

Lord of the Rings

Scott Pilgrim

💬 “I have to watch Japanese anime AND read Shonen Jump,” Kawaguchi said, adding that the constant wave of content is becoming overwhelming — even for industry insiders.

🎭 Mie Onishi, CoMixWave’s international business lead, echoed the sentiment: some Western companies see anime as a low-effort way to pump out content quickly, often underestimating the cultural and artistic depth behind it.

📈 As anime continues its global boom, not every creator is excited about the quantity-over-quality mindset taking hold.

Demon Slayer's Infinity Castle looms with glowing red light while anime fans worldwide tune in, symbolizing anime's rise to global mainstream

June 16, 2025

Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle Hype Proves Anime Is Now Mainstream, Says Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll reveals Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle footage behind closed doors as its movie chief declares, “Anime is niche no more,” with anime fandom projected to hit 1.5 billion by 2030 🔥 “Anime is niche no more.”

That’s the bold declaration from Crunchyroll’s movie chief Michel Berger — and the numbers are backing it up.

🎬 At the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Crunchyroll unveiled exclusive footage of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle behind closed doors, fueling already sky-high hype for what’s expected to be 2025’s biggest anime box office hit.

📈 According to Crunchyroll and a study by NRG:

Anime fandom is set to reach 1.5 billion by 2030 — not even counting Japan and China.

Nearly 60% of teens (13–17) now consider themselves anime fans.

Even among ages 13–54, 44% identify as anime fans — surpassing K-dramas and other trending genres.

🌍 With titles like Jujutsu Kaisen, The Apothecary Diaries, and Demon Slayer making waves globally, anime isn’t just entertainment — it’s a cultural force.

🧡 Crunchyroll, with 17 million subscribers and the world’s largest anime library, is at the forefront of this evolution.

👀 The takeaway?

Anime isn’t a niche hobby anymore. It’s the future of global storytelling.

Frieren lies quietly in reflective water while Sung Jin-woo stands boldly behind her, highlighting the contrast between emotional depth and action spectacle

June 16, 2025

Why Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Deserved Anime of the Year Over Solo Leveling

While Solo Leveling won Crunchyroll’s 2025 Anime of the Year, many believe Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was the more deserving pick, offering emotional depth, originality, and true character development 🎖️ Anime of the Year? The fans are split.

Solo Leveling may have won the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, but for many, the real crown belongs to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. ✨

🆚 Action vs. Emotion

Solo Leveling dazzled with stunning animation and fast-paced fights, but critics argue it lacked depth and relied too heavily on familiar shonen tropes.

Frieren offered a soulful, reflective journey, showing the quiet heartbreak and healing of a centuries-old elf coming to terms with loss and time.

🧝‍♀️ Why Frieren Stands Out:

Original fantasy storytelling, not just another power-fantasy

Deep character growth and emotional arcs

Storybook visuals and quiet, meditative pacing

Some of 2024’s most beautiful fight scenes — without overusing them

🔥 While Sung Jin-woo conquered monsters, Frieren conquered hearts.

She didn’t just fight to grow stronger — she fought to understand life itself.

📉 Was action mistaken for substance? Many fans think so.

CODA's Anti Piracy Crackdown Takes Down More Anime Streaming Sites in 2025

Japan's CODA filed over 677K takedown notices in 2024–2025, targeting anime piracy across social media and streaming sites. Key platforms like Facebook and MP4upload complied, while others like 9anime went offline 🚨 CODA’s 2025 Crackdown: More Anime Streaming Sites Go Dark!

The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) is hitting hard this year — with over 677,000 takedown notices filed between April 2024 and March 2025 💥

🧾 Of those, nearly 81% were successful, with platforms like Facebook (93.97%), YouTube (97.84%), and even BilibiliTV & TikTok (99%+) complying with copyright takedown requests. Surprisingly, MP4upload and Streamtape also removed all flagged content.

❌ Meanwhile, known piracy sites like Dramacool, Videokvid, and 9anime ignored the requests — and now, they're no longer operating.

⚠️ Even MangaDex was hit — removing 2,000+ manga series due to DMCA notices from Comeso (not CODA), causing major ripples in the manga fanbase.

🌍 CODA is also working internationally with countries like Brazil, China, and Taiwan, leading to over 3,000 arrests this year in anti-piracy operations.

🎯 With support from anime giants like Toei, Aniplex, and Studio Ghibli, CODA’s efforts could reshape how anime is accessed around the world - especially as legal streaming becomes more dominant

Dandadan Surpasses Solo Leveling in Nielsen Ratings But Is It Really More Popular

Dandadan just broke into the Nielsen Top 100 for Adults 18-49, outpacing Solo Leveling in mainstream viewership. But critics question if the data reflects anime fandom’s true preferences 🚨 Dandadan Just Beat Solo Leveling in Nielsen Ratings – But Is It Deserved?

The paranormal action anime Dandadan made history by breaking into the Nielsen Top 100 for Adults 18-49, ranking in the top 60 most-watched shows in the U.S. across all platforms. Solo Leveling? Not even on the list 😮

📊 While Solo Leveling dominated Crunchyroll and even broke servers on release, Nielsen’s cross-platform rankings suggest Dandadan has broader mainstream reach in the U.S.

BUT... Nielsen’s data might be missing key factors:

– ❌ Crunchyroll-exclusive viewers

– ❌ Massive anime piracy

– ❌ Mobile viewership and global access

🧠 Critics argue that Solo Leveling likely still leads in raw anime popularity, especially online, and that Nielsen’s model may still underrepresent anime audiences.

👁️‍🗨️ Regardless, Dandadan’s feat shows anime is pushing deeper into mainstream territory. Whether this changes how anime is tracked or ranked remains to be seen.

Axel from Lazarus stands in the shadows while Spike from Cowboy Bebop looks ahead with resolve; both framed in contrasting lighting to symbolize depth vs. detachment

June 15, 2025

Lazarus Anime’s Biggest Flaw Is What Cowboy Bebop Mastered 24 Years Ago

Shinichiro Watanabe’s Lazarus boasts stunning action and visuals, but lacks the emotional depth and character focus that made Cowboy Bebop timeless. Can it catch up before it ends? 🔥 Lazarus Anime's Fatal Flaw: What Cowboy Bebop Got Right 24 Years Ago

Despite its stellar animation and intense action, Lazarus is struggling to connect with fans on a deeper level—and here's why 👇

🎭 While Cowboy Bebop gave us layered characters like Spike with clear backstories and personal stakes by Episode 5, Lazarus still hasn't delivered a central emotional anchor in Axel Gilberto.

🧠 Fans feel the lack of character depth and chemistry in the Lazarus team, unlike the Bebop crew who bonded naturally—even amid mystery and chaos.

⚔️ The action is cinematic, the music is top-tier, but without strong character arcs, the show feels more style over substance.

💊 The focus on antagonist Dr. Skinner and the opioid-crisis-inspired "Hapna" drug shows the story has high stakes, but without meaningful character investment, it struggles to hit as hard as Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo.

⏳ With only 13 episodes total, Lazarus has little time left to build emotional weight. Can it rise from the shadow of a classic? Only time will tell.

📺 Now Streaming on Toonami & HBO Max

Oshiyama emphasized the emotional core of Look Back, particularly the quiet climax where Fujino chooses to move forward—symbolizing both personal and artistic growth. While the anime closely mirrors the manga, Oshiyama believes anime should utilize the strengths of its medium, not replicate manga panel-by-panel.

He compared AI tools to washing machines—useful, but dangerous if they replace the soul of human creativity. Oshiyama strongly condemned AI that mimics studios like Ghibli for profit, but acknowledged that AI could empower non-artists to explore creative expression—so long as it's ethical.

🎬 Future Projects: Shishigari

Shishigari, originally a pilot film, is now moving ahead as a fully independent feature under Studio Durian. Though delays occurred during Look Back's production, the studio now has full creative control and is waiting for the right opportunity to resume.

Oshiyama hinted at more original works from Durian, with adaptations only considered if they resonate deeply with the team.

Anime proposal from Keizai Doyukai showing how canceled manga can be revived through fan-driven funding and tiered adaptation strategy

June 10, 2025

Japan Proposes Anime Adaptations of Canceled Manga with Business Leader Support.

The Keizai Doyukai proposes adapting canceled manga into anime to boost Japan’s content industry, backed by top execs and new policies supporting fan-driven investment and anime creators. 📢 Canceled manga may soon get a second life — as anime. Japan’s Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives) has pitched a bold new strategy to revitalize the anime industry and empower creators.

🌀 The proposal outlines a tiered system to revive lesser-known and canceled manga:

Pre-productions & unpopular manga are shared on social media.

Fan-favorite titles earn short anime films.

The most popular short films become full anime adaptations — funded by fans and businesses alike.

💸 With direct support from 1,600 top executives, the plan emphasizes:

Anime investor funds for fans

Government-backed support for localization, awards, and exhibitions

Training for animators, including overseas creators

A revamp of freelance animator wages & contractual practices

Digital transformation and AI readiness in production pipelines

📈 Why this matters: The system could help overseas fans shape what gets adapted, especially series canceled before being licensed outside Japan. Titles like Black Torch and Two on Ice could be the start of a global movement!

🎙️ J-COM Chairman Bin Haga suggested even unserialized manga be evaluated via weekly rankings. If adopted, this could usher in a new creator-first anime era.

💬 “Canceled manga getting anime? That’s a win for creators, fans, and the industry,” one user commented after watching Bleach: TYBW’s credit honoring Tite Kubo’s creative control.

🛡️ As Japan tackles piracy and production burnout, this proposal offers a path forward — where fans, creators, and studios build the future of anime together.

Crunchyroll Faces Rising Competition as Toho & Others Shake Up U.S. Anime Streaming Market

As anime’s global reach expands, industry leaders say Crunchyroll’s dominance in the U.S. may be stalling growth. Toho and other companies like VIZ Media are stepping in to diversify anime distribution channels. 🚨 Industry Shift Alert!CoMix Wave Films founder Noritaka Kawaguchi recently pointed out a critical issue in the U.S. anime market: Crunchyroll's near-monopoly may be slowing anime’s full potential in North America.

While praising Crunchyroll’s efforts, Kawaguchi said that “Japanese anime still hasn’t fully reached America.” The solution? More competition.

🎥 Toho is taking the lead—recently acquiring U.S. distributor GKIDS and securing rights to hits like My Hero Academia: You’re Next.📺 Even platforms like Netflix, VIZ Media, and new players like REMOW are offering flexible, fan-first alternatives.

This could be the start of a new era where anime isn't tied to just one streaming service.

💬 What do you think—does anime need more platforms in the West?

John Wick Anime Prequel Lets Loose: “Anime Just Goes Pop,” Says Creator.

John Wick co-creator Chad Stahelski reveals why the upcoming anime project is a prequel and how the medium offers creative freedom beyond the live-action films. 🎥💥 John Wick’s Next Chapter Goes Anime – and It’s a Prequel! 🔫🐶

Chad Stahelski, co-creator of the John Wick franchise, just confirmed that the long-rumored anime project is officially a prequel film—and there's a powerful reason why:

“Anime just goes pop,” he told THR. “You don’t have to explain weird stuff or de-age Keanu. You just tell a badass story.”

🧩 Why anime?

Total creative freedom

No timeline constraints

No need to "explain" Wick’s past

More fun, more action, more crazy

💬 The anime will explore the “impossible task” that earned Wick his retirement before Chapter 1, using bold, stylized animation to expand the universe in new ways. 🎞️✨

🎬 No studio confirmed yet, but Stahelski’s past work on Lazarus with Shinichiro Watanabe hints at serious anime credibility. And no, Keanu isn’t involved—at least not yet...

👀 What we know:

Set before Chapter 1

Will go all-in on action, lore, and world-building

Aiming for fun, not filler

🔥 If this hits like it should, the Wickverse might just find its boldest form yet—in anime.
